Running Accomplishments:

I have been apart of Lehi's Cross Country and Track teams for four years. I was a member of the varsity team when we took 3rd at the Utah 5A State Championship. In that race I took 28 with a time of 16:18. My PR was at NXR Southwest where I took 47th place with a 15:43. During my junior track season I ran the 800m, 1600m, and the 3200m. At the State Championships I ran the 800 leg of Lehi's Medley Relay and helped break the school record, we finished 6th with a time of 3:35.97. In my senior track season I qualified for state, and the Arcadia Invitational in the 3200m. I finished the season with a PR in the 1600m as a 4:24.8, and a 9:32.58 in the 3200m. I have also competed in the AF Canyon half marathon placing 7th with a time of 1:16:55.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I would like to get my 5k time closer to 15:00 maybe even sub 15:00, and an 8k around 25:00.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would mostly like to keep on improving. I would like to run at least one marathon, and race a triathalon.

Personal:

I ran for Lehi High School. I was the distance team captain for the track team. I'm eighteen years old. Member of Team Pre, (follow us @team_pre on instagram.) Now I attened the University of Miami and run on their XC team.

After the warm up I did 2 miles of speed changes, that is slow on the curves and fast on the straits. Afterwards I finished up 10 miles.

I felt a little sick today so I couldn't go as fast as I wanted to, but I did hold a 7:05 mile average so I'm fairly happy with that.

Started the distance run with a 4 mile tempo run. Went a little slower than I wanted to but im still a little sick. I averaged around a 5:55 mile. The I finished up my mileage staying around a 6:50 mile.

Rout was a little hilly today which made the run somewhat harder, plus I wasn't feeling the greatest, hopefully i'll be back at 100% next week.

Easy distance run today, low mileage, fairly easy. I felt pretty good today so I was able to somewhat push the pace. First half of the run was uphill at a 6:30ish average, second half all downhill with a 6:00 average. Afterwards did some squats 4x10 at 95lb with some calf raisers and abs.

Speed workout today, kinda tough, it was a little hard to breathe. Afterwards we finished up our distance at a nice easy pace with a 7:50 average. Legs are a little sore and I've developed a blister on my left foot. Hopefully it will heal quickly.

Ran the 4x800m relay at the Olympic Oval today, I anchored the relay with a split of around a 2:03, team time of 8:21.09. We placed second, the winning team ran a time of 8:21.08, needless to say some of the guys are a little dissapointed that 1/100 of a second cost us first place.

I didn't run as many miles as I should have today but I wanted to make sure that I was ready for my race, and afterwards I was too tired and it was a little late.

Ran the open 800m today, was placed in the fast heat. I was still tired and a little sore from yesterday so I probably didn't run as fast as I could have, I finished last in my heat but 14 overall out of 94 runners, so I'm pretty happy about that.

Afterwards I ran 6 more miles to cool down, less than I should have gone but my legs were pretty much shot. Had a 7:31 average for the remainder of my miles.

After the run I did a weight workout consisting of bench press 3x10 reps 75lb and a fouth set of 15 reps 80lb, curls 3x10 at 30lb (15lb each arm), push press 3x10 50lb, butterfly press 3x10 50lb

Had a mile time trial today, led the first three laps but couldn't keep it up on the final lap, finished with a 4:44 which I'm fairly happy with, not bad for the first mile of the season. I was still a little sore from my races the previous weekend. Also didn't help that I didn't have anybody to chase the first three laps, I tend to do better when I get to chase somebody.

Afterwards finished up the rest of my miles at a 8:00 mile average, a nice easy recovery pace.

Had a speed workout today, it would have been easier if I had not eaten a decent sized pile of Tootsie Rolls right before, had some stomach problems during the run...

Speed Workout: 2x 1000m, 3x 800m, 4x 400m all at goal 2 mile pace, my splits were 3:08.78, 3:08.36, 2:32.64, 2:33.31, 2:31.63, 1:12.12, 1:11.11, 1:10.56, 1:13.93.

Bit of a speed workout today had 12x 1 min. pick-ups at mile pace w/ 1 min. or recovery pace in between each pick-up. To throw a little spice into the run on each pick-up a predetermined guy would do a quick surge at a random time and the rest of the group would have to not let the runner get away.

Had the Distance Challenge today ran the 1600m and the 3200m

With the mile I was feeling preety good, I ran in the second heat (it went fastest to slowest) which was a rather large heat. I felt boxed in and often had to run on the far outside of the track, when I finished I still felt fine which told me that my kick wasn't quite up to my usual standards. I still got a PR with a 4:33.29 but I know that I can do better.

In the two mile I ran in the fast heat, I was surprisingly able to keep up with the leaders for the first mile until they started to break away. The race felt really good, the first mile felt like I was just on a distance run yet we still clocked in at around a 4:55 mile split. I went into the last lap in 5th place but had a killer kick which landed me in 3rd place behind Josh Ward, and Logan Mackay, both from Davis.

Throughout the day will all of my warm-ups and cool downs I managed to complete all of my miles.

Had a killer hill workout today. 9x 90 all-out up the hill to see how far you could go. The hill in question had an elevation gain of roughly 100 ft over .25 of a mile. It was rather tiring but we managed to make it through all 9 sets and finish up 10 miles.

Distance run today with a twist, had 10x 1 minute pick-ups at mile/two mile pace with a little kick during the last 5 seconds with 1 minute of rest between each pick-up. It was really windy which made coming back somewhat difficult, we ended up with a 7:15 mile average.

Short but fast speed workout today 3 sets of 1x 200m, 1x 400m, 1x 200m with the 200m at 800m pace and the 400m at 1600m pace. splits were 34.71,70.46, 33.79, 31.89, 71.59, 34.38, 32.10, 67.72, 32.78 respectivly. Was hurting a little and it was quite windy so they weren't as fast as I wanted them to be, soon I guess, after I ice a little.

Morning speed workout today rather difficult it was 20x400m. The first 5 were at 5k pace, the next 5 were at 3200m pace, next 5 at current mile pace, last 5 at goal mile pace. Duel meet against Lone Peak today, planned on running the 800m and a 4x400m relay. In the 800m I had a bad start getting bumped around and ending up in the middle of the pack, gave it a little kick and by the 200m mark I was in second place, by the 400m mark I was leading the pack, I kept it up for another lap and finished first with a time of 2:05. Almost immediatly afterwards we ran the 3200m just for fun as a way to get in more miles, I was still hurting from the 800m so I took it nice and easy finishing with a time of around 12:15, a time that won't be showing up again. Then we went right into the 4x400m which drained anything we might have had left. Managed to run all of our miles periodically throughout the meet.

Today we did a mile speed changes on the track, going easy on the turns and fast on the strait aways. After that we finished up our distance with a 6:42 mile average. I was feeling a little sore at first but after we started going I started to feel better. When we got back I took an ice bath, hopefully it helps.

Easy distance run with a premeet workout in the middle. We couldn't use the track for premeet since there was a jr. high meet taking place so we ended up doing our 400s around a park. We had a 7:02 mile average. I'll admit that I wasn't feeling the greatest today, I had a stomach cramp nearly the entire run, but it went away with roughly a mile left to go. I did feel loose which is good, and I am feeling ready for the Davis Super Meet tomorrow.

Ran the mile at the Davis Super Meet today, I felt good during my race but I know that the 2nd and 3rd laps were way to slow, I wanted to speed up a little but I was cut-off and boxed in. I managed to take 5th place and score some points for Lehi. After that I ran as the anchor leg in a 4x800m team. We took first by a good 6 seconds with a 8:25.36. I'm fairly happy with it. Throughout the meet we ran the rest of our milage in warm ups and cool downs.

Pretty good day today, visited the University of Miami and meet with the distance coach, Coach Griffiths. Ran the anchor leg of Lehi's 4x800m today at Arcadia. Overall I would have to say that I'm happy with how we did, there were some troubles with the baton being dropped but even with that complication we finished with a 8:21.89 a PR for our outdoor team. I felt that my leg went well, I don't know what my split was but it felt pretty fast, I know I pushed myself as much as I could because I spent the next few minutes after the race rediscovering all that I had eaten that day, Papa Heaps showed great care and support for me by taking pictures of the inccident, so those gems are floating around out there. Afterwards I stayed and watched Connor and Thomas run their 3200m. Connor ran a 9:27.17, and Thomas ran a 9:48.24 so congrats to both of them for a great race. After all that I went back to hotel to start preparing for my 3200m tomorrow.

I ran the rated 3200m at Arcadia today and I feel that it went rather well. I managed to saty with the pack for the first mile coming in around a 4:39 mile split, then I started to fall back I tried to keep in contact witht the group but it just wasn't happening, I did find enough in me for a killer kick passing about 5 guys to finish with a 9:32.58. Throughout the day I watched Thomas and Connor run their mile races, both of them did really well running impressive times. So all in all I would call Arcadia a success.

It's been a while since I have posted anything but I figured new state renewed commitment to the blog, anyhow just arrived in Florida and was able to go a quick 6 miles this morning. When I first started I felt great (most likely due to the altitude) and ran my first mile at 6:00.78 and my second mile at 5:32.73 which was kinda suprising because I didn't mean to be going that fast. afterthat however the heat and humidity really started to kick in and my pace took a steep nosedive down (or in this case up) with my last 3 miles being in the 6:30s. Overall not a bad run, I just need to start getting out earlier. Shoutout and good luck to everyone on Lehi cross country for your first official race of the year this week, be sure to kill it for me and let me know how it goes.

Today I ran another 6 miles however I did my run early in the morning without anything to eat beforehand so I was incredably exhausted, so lession learned, eat something before heading out. Anyhow it was a 7 minute mile average.

Turns out we also had our first XC practice today as well, since I ran in the morning I was told to cut it short in the afternoon I ended up running 4 miles at a 6:49 mile pace, I was able to easily keep up with the team so far. After the distance run we did 8 strides and finished with an ab workout.

Today was the first official practice with the team, we drove to a nearby park did a quick warmup and then ran around the park trying to maintain somewhere between a 5:40 and 6:20 pace. I was able to keep up with the top group for the first 4 miles but then my lack of breakfast kicked in and I hit a wall and died. I was able to finish up a 5th mile but it was slower and brought my pace up. Afterwards we did a short cool down and took an ice bath so overall not a bad day.

Todays workout was a 2 mile warmup followed by 8x1000m on the grass followed by 6x200m also on the grass finishing with a mile cooldown. I got to try out my new flats on the workout today which was nice, they felt good but they are a little heavier than what I'm used to but other than that they were good. Interesting day today, we went out on a long run, 11 miles at a 7:11 average pace, so it was a nice easy run, I felt pretty good throughout the run. Afterwards we took an ice bath and got breakfast, during which I blacked out several times... we think that it was a combination of not eating, taking a cold ice bath, and standing in a cold dining hall. It was a whole ordeal and kinda just an embarasing situation. I feel fine now but when it happened my blood pressure was pretty low (75/30) but now its back up to a more normal levels. Anyhow that was my excitement for the weekend and I'm hoping that it doesn't happen again.

Started the day with the usual 2 mile warmup. We then did a 4 mile tempo run around the track at a 5:35 mile pace. After that we did 8x200m to get our leg speed up I averaged around 30-33 seconds each 200. we then finished with a mile cool down. I'm not gonna lie, I ate way to much last night and it came back to haunt me this morning, needless to say I felt like garbage the entire workout but I still managed to stay with the lead pack which is always good.

Speed workout today we started with the usual 2 mile warmup then did 3x5x600m. The first set was paced for 80s, the second for 75s, and the third set was sub 75s. Not gonna lie I was still sore from monday so todays workout was incredably tiring, but I made it all the way through while staying on pace. Race today, we did a 2 mile warmup before. The course itself was very flat which wasn't too bad, but I wasn't feeling the greatest during the race, my first mile was 4:59, and it went downhill from there with my second mile being a 5:23, and my third mile being 5:39. I placed 3rd on my team and can only go up from here.

Did a hill workout today (technically bridge workout since there are no hills in Florida) on the Key Biscayne bridge. Our workout was 13x600m up the hill/bridge and then jog back down as our recovery and go right up again without stopping. Tempo run today 4.5 miles at a 5:40 pace. We ended up going about a 5:35 average so a little fast but we did a good job of staying on pace. Afterwards we did 4x150m to get some work on our leg speed. My shins were hurting a lot the entire run and I was worried that I might have shin splints but I went to the trainer and he said that the muscle along the shin bone was just super tight due to me switching shoes (there is more room for my toe to raise up in the boosts) the problem should be completely resolved soon.

Today was mile repeats day. We did 4x1600m around the track with the goal pace of 5:05, my first 2 were right on pace but then my calfs started gettign really tight which slowed me down a bit with my 3rd mile being 5:15 and my 4th mile being 5:20. We then did 4x400m to get some speed in, they hurt a lot but I managed to get them all done. I then got my calfs worked on by the trainer which has helped.

Today was supposed to be a speed workout but after the warm up my ankle was giving me problems that it hurt to walk, so my coach had me run on the water treadmill instead. I was an incredably cool experience for like 5 minutes and then it just turns into any other experience on a treadmill except you are in the water. I ran for a good 40 minutes. I've been taking it easy today and will take it easy tomorrow so that I will be in good shape for Saturday.

Today was another weight workout followed by what was supposed to be a distance run, but the trainer had me on the water treadmill for another day... aparently I have tendonitis in my ankle. So I've been taking it easy but we think that I should still be able to run on Saturday as long as I'm smart with the training tomorrow. I talked to my coach about goals for Saturday and he said that he thinks I could finish in the mid 25 minutes which seems like a lofty goal but it just might be achievable, we shall see if it happens.

Ran at the Mountain Dew Invitational hosted by the University of Florida today. It was my first 8k so I didn't quite know what to expect and it hurt a lot more that I thought it would. It didn't help that my calves were still super tight and it had rained a lot the night before which soaked the course. It was super tiring and I ran out of juice around the 4th mile but I still managed to finish 3rd on the team and 43 overall with a time of 27:46.25 which isn't terrible for a first time running a 8k, but I think I could have done better if I had just stuck with the lead pack for a couple miles. On the plus side I now know what to expect for the next one

I got through the mile and 7 of the 400s before my calf tightened up to the point where it hurt to walk and my coach told me to call it a day. When I visited the trainer he told me that my form is what is causing my calf to hurt so much since I'm running on my toes a lot, which means I have to go back to square one on my form and try to get off of my toes...

Had an evening race at the University of Southern Florida today, I'm not the biggest fan of evening races because I still haven't figured out what the best thing for me to eat for lunch beofre a race is. Needless to say my stomach wasn't really feeling the race and the entire thing felt sluggish, throw in the fact that my calf started to feel like it was on fire after the second mile, and I've got a combo for a bad race. I fell off of the lead pack almost immediatly and found myself struggling to maintain a decent position. Shout out to the random guy in a pink headband that I raced with the entire time, definitly helped me out a lot. This was the last meet before the ACC championships so I've got two weeks to get back into fighting shape if I want to finish the season with a good race.

Woke up early with the team for a long run in Tampa today.  12 miles 7:18 average, I felt pretty good a majority of the run, my calf did start to cramp up a little after the second mile, but after runing another mile it went away. The rout we took lead us to a trail that went through a long clearing surrounded by tall trees, the fact that it was super dark and foggy made the entire run super creepy, we were all pretty sure there was an ax murderer following us, but we all made it out alive. It was a good day.

Steady state run today, we did a half mile warm up to a fairly straight road and started a 8 mile run with the goal to be between 5:45 and 6:05, I stayed with the team for 2 miles before my leg gave out and I had to turn back. After I got back I did another slow mile around the athletic fields.

Today was ACC Championships and boy were they rough. I ran the first mile in 4:54 but was still in the very back whcih was rather discouraging. I ended up running by myself in the back which slowed me down a lot, I came through the 5k at 16:54, so not the greatest ever, After that though everything fell apart and my calves were on fire. I struggled through the final 2 miles and finished 4th from last... After the race I found out that the guy who won beat Ed Cheserek the week before so it was definitly a super fast race. I was pretty disapointed in how I did but its just motivation to train harder for next year and stay with the main group.

Mile and a half warmup today, I was wanting to go 2 but my calves were already hurting so I decided to turn around early to get some stretching in. The wrokout was 5x 1000m followed by 6 x 400m, I sorta made it through the first 1000m and halfway through the second. My first set was extreamly painful but I managed to get through it although I did finish behind the pack. Afterwards I managed to get through a small cooldown before getting work done by the trainers.

Instead of doing a speed workout coach had be do a 50 minute run. I maintained a 7 minute average and only had to stop and stretch a couple times. At some point a bug flew directly into the back of my throat so that caused my to stop an additional time to cough it back up, which wasn't fun...

Speed workout today, coach had me do something different than the rest of the team to help try and bring me back into good condition. My workout was 3x1600m with a goal pace of 5:40 to 5:45. I screwed up the pacing on the first set and ran the first three laps as if I was trying to hit a 4:45 pace, I realized my mistake the last lap and slowed my pace down a little. I came across the line at 5:13. After that my coach told me to aim for 5:30. My I was still a little fast on my second mile coming across at 5:21. My last mile was finally at the adjusted pace coming across at 5:31. Throughout the workout I felt good and didn't feel anything in my calf until the very end. All in all it was a good day.

11 mile distance run at a 7:05 average pace. A new trail opened up nearby called the Ludlum trail so we went to try it out. We got there in time for the "Grand opening ceremony". the trail was only 2.5 miles so the round trip would have been 5 miles but we added 3 miles around a park at the far end of the trail to bring the total to 8 and then we finished 3 more running back to the athletic center. It was a good run overall but my back started to hurt a little near the end.

Today the workout was a 3 mile tempo run around the track at 5:20 mile pace followed by 6x200m as fast as you can. For once my calves felt good for a workout, they were a little tight but it wasn't bothering me that much and I thought that I would be able to make it all the way through the workout but a little after the second mile my foot hit the small railing that is on the inside of the track since it was jutting out into lane 1 and I rolled my ankle. I was able to make it through the 200s but I was stopped at 2 during the tempo run. It was rather disapointing

It was a pretty cool experience, the machine looked like a mix between an egg and the capsule from Captain America. After it was all over my body fat percentage is 12.7%

It was a crazy morning, we had a speed workout today which consisted of 400, 800, 1600, 800, 400 all at 5 minute pace. throughout the workout it was raining super hard, lanes 1 & 2 were flooded and it was hard to see. I felt fairly good durig the first 400 and 800, but my calves started to tighten up during the 1600 and I finished way behind the rest of the group, it was a similar story with the 800 but I was able to fight through the pain for the last 400 and finish with the team. It was the first workout that I've been able to finish with the team in quite some time, so I was super excited about that, hopefully things only get better from here.
